About

Connecting youth and growing their faith

A part of the Church of God General Conference (COGGC), Turning Point Youth Ministries (TPYM) is an organization dedicated to connecting young men and women of faith with one another in an effort to deepen their relationship with Christ.  TPYM hosts and partners to host a large summer youth event and mid-year retreats, which allow teens and young adults to serve, worship, fellowship, and dive into the Word with one another.

Our History

The youth ministry branch of the COGGC actually started before there was an organized conference.  Young people in the states of Illinois & Iowa organized state groups in 1898, forming groups using the name Berean, and other states followed.  In 1913, a National Berean Society was organized at a meeting of the Church of God in Oregon, IL, and in 1945, the National Berean Organization was incorporated into the General Conference.

This early formation focused on the publication of lesson materials and Bible training classes. Starting in 1947, they shifted the summer training school into a summer camp, which continues today.  It has existed under many names, including Berean Youth Rally, National Youth Congress, RYOT (Radical Youth Overcoming Today), and currently, FUEL.  This large summer event is currently held in Indiana, though the early years saw many conferences in Illinois as well as Arkansas in the late 1900s.

Starting in 1953, there has been a National Youth Director who oversees the work of this youth ministry branch. The Turning Point Youth Ministries name was adopted in 2003 to encompass this national summer event and other retreats throughout the year. Over the years, what this youth ministry branch has worked on has changed, but the desire to see youth committing their lives to Christ and studying the Word of God has stayed central to the heart of this program.
